The front (chest-level) side airbag is fitted to the backrest
of each front seat on the door side.
When it is deployed, the airbag tears the module cover
and the foam and detaches the trim.
IMPORTANT
To avoid any risk of damaging the systems, apply
the instructions relating to safety and cleanliness
and the operation recommendations before carrying
out the repair (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners,
Airbag and pretensioners: Precautions
for the repair, page 88C-6) |
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or
naked flame - they may be triggered. |
IMPORTANT
To avoid causing a fault or triggering a pyrotechnic
component (airbags or pretensioners), wait
for at least 3 minutes after disconnecting the
battery. |
- Disconnect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery:
Removal - Refitting, page 80A-3) .
- Remove:
- the front seat (see Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting) (75A, Front seat frames and runners),
- the front seat belt stalk (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners,
Front seat belt buckle: Removal -
Refitting, page 88C-24) ,
- the headrest guide (see Front seat headrest
guide: Removal - Refitting) (79A, Seat accessories),
- the front seat backrest trim partially (see Front
seat base trim: Removal - Refitting) (77A, Front
seat trim).
II - REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED
- Remove:
- the covers from the front (chest-level) side airbag
cover bolts,
- the bolts (1) from the front (chest-level) side airbag
cover,
- the cover (2) from the front (chest-level) side airbag.
- Detach the clips from the front (chest-level) side airbag
wiring underneath the seat.
- Remove the nuts (3) from the front (chest-level) side
airbag.
- Separate the front (chest-level) side airbag (4) from
the seat backrest trim cover (5) .
- Remove:
- the front side (chest-level) airbag,
- the foam - trim assembly from the front seat backrest.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
IMPORTANT
After a seat belt pyrotechnic component is triggered,
it is essential to replace certain parts (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbag and
pretensioners: Precautions for the repair,
page 88C-6) . |
IMPORTANT
To eliminate the risk of any accident, do not
reuse pyrotechnic components.
It is essential to destroy pretensioners or airbags
before scrapping a vehicle or a part only (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbags and
pretensioners: Recycling - Destruction, page
88C-7) . |
- Always replace the nuts for the front (chest-level)
side airbag.
II - REFITTING PART CONCERNED
- Refit:
- the foam - trim assembly for the front seat backrest,
- the front (chest-level) side airbag to the seat backrest
trim cover,
- the new nuts for the front (chest-level) side airbag
- Torque tighten the chest-level side airbag nuts (7
N.m).
III - FINAL OPERATION.
- Refit:
- the front seat backrest trim partially (see Front
seat base trim: Removal - Refitting) (77A, Front
seat trim),
- the headrest guide (see Front seat headrest
guide: Removal - Refitting) (79A, Seat accessories),
- the front seat belt stalk (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners,
Front seat belt buckle: Removal -
Refitting, page 88C-24) ,
- the front seat (see Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting) (75A, Front seat frames and runners),
- Connect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery: Removal
- Refitting, page 80A-3) .
