IMPORTANT
To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply
the safety and cleanliness instructions and operation
recommendations before carrying out any
repair (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbag
and pretensioners: Precautions for the
repair, page 88C-6) . |
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or
naked flame - they may be triggered. |
IMPORTANT
To prevent the pyrotechnic components from
being permanently deactivated or triggered (airbags
or pretensioners), wait for at least 3 min
after disconnecting the battery. |
- Disconnect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery:
Removal - Refitting, page 80A-3) .
- Remove the glovebox (see Glovebox: Removal -
Refitting) (57A, Interior equipment).
NAVIGATION AID 1 or NAVIGATION AID 2
- Remove:
- the navigation computer (see 83C, On-board
telematics system, Navigation computer: Removal
- Refitting, page 83C-3)
- the navigation interface unit (see 83C, On-board
telematics system, Navigation interface unit:
Removal - Refitting, page 83C-4)
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
WARNING
To ensure the airbag is not damaged during
removal, do not use a tool with a point or a sharp
edge. |
- Remove the front passenger airbag bolt (1) .
Note:
To disconnect the airbag connector, insert a flat-blade
screwdriver wrapped in adhesive tape in
the notch (2) , lift the security device (3) and disconnect
the connector. |
- Disconnect the front passenger airbag connector (4)
.
- Remove the dashboard (see Dashboard: Removal
- Refitting) (57A, Interior equipment).
- Remove:
- the front side air distribution duct bolts,
- the front side air distribution duct.
- Remove the front passenger airbag bolts (7) .
- Detach the passenger front airbag (8) from the dashboard.
- Remove the passenger frontal airbag.
IMPORTANT
To prevent the any component from being thrown
upwards, store the airbag with the inflatable
cushion facing upwards. |
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Always replace the passenger front airbag bolts.
IMPORTANT
After a seat belt pyrotechnic component is triggered,
it is essential to replace certain parts (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbag and
pretensioners: Precautions for the repair,
page 88C-6) . |
IMPORTANT
When the passenger front airbag is triggered, the
consequent damage caused to the mountings
always requires the dashboard to be replaced.
Affix the label warning against fitting a rear-facing
child seat on the front passenger seat to the passenger
side of the dashboard. |
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
NAVIGATION AID 1 or NAVIGATION AID 2
- Refit:
- the navigation interface unit (see 83C, On-board
telematics system, Navigation interface unit:
Removal - Refitting, page 83C-4)
- the navigation computer (see 83C, On-board
telematics system, Navigation computer: Removal
- Refitting, page 83C-3)
- Refit:
- the passenger front airbag to the dashboard,
- new passenger front airbag bolts,
- the front side air distribution duct,
- the dashboard (see Dashboard: Removal - Refitting)
(57A, Interior equipment).
- Connect the front passenger airbag connector.
- Refit the passenger front airbag bolt.
- Torque tighten the passenger front airbag bolts
(23 N.m).
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the glovebox (see Glovebox: Removal - Refitting)
(57A, Interior equipment).
- Connect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery: Removal
- Refitting, page 80A-3) .
IMPORTANT
To eliminate the risk of any accident, do not
reuse pyrotechnic components.
It is essential to destroy pretensioners or airbags
before scrapping a vehicle or a part only (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbags and
pretensioners: Recycling - Destruction, page
88C-7) . |
