The side curtain airbag is mounted behind the headlining.
When inflating, the airbag becomes detached from the
roof lining.
IMPORTANT
To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply
the safety and cleanliness instructions and operation
recommendations before carrying out any
repair (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbag
and pretensioners: Precautions for the
repair, page 88C-6) . |
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
IMPORTANT
To prevent the pyrotechnic components from
being permanently deactivated or triggered (airbags
or pretensioners), wait for at least 3 min
after disconnecting the battery. |
- Disconnect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery:
Removal - Refitting, page 80A-3) .
- Remove the headlining (see Headlining: Removal -
Refitting) (71A, Body internal trim).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or
naked flame - they may be triggered. |
WARNING
To ensure the airbag is not damaged during
removal, do not use a tool with a point or a sharp
edge. |
Note:
To disconnect the airbag connector, insert a flat-blade
screwdriver wrapped in adhesive tape in
the notch (1) , lift the security device (2) and disconnect
the connector. |
- Disconnect the connector (3) from the side curtain
airbag.
- Remove the side curtain airbag bolts.
- Unclip the side curtain airbag mounting brackets (4)
- Remove the side curtain airbag.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Always replace the side curtain airbag bolts.
IMPORTANT
In order to ensure that the side curtain airbag
mountings are secure, never refit a side curtain
airbag which has been removed. |
IMPORTANT
After a seat belt pyrotechnic component is triggered,
it is essential to replace certain parts (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbag and
pretensioners: Precautions for the repair,
page 88C-6) . |
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Fit the side curtain airbag.
- Attach the side curtain airbag mounting brackets.
- Refit the new side curtain airbag bolts.
- Torque tighten the side curtain airbag bolts (11
N.m).
- Connect the side curtain airbag connector.
- Check that the side curtain airbag connector is correctly
locked.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the headlining (see Headlining: Removal -
Refitting) (71A, Body internal trim).
- Connect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery: Removal
- Refitting, page 80A-3) .
IMPORTANT
To eliminate the risk of any accident, do not
reuse pyrotechnic components.
It is essential to destroy pretensioners or airbags
before scrapping a vehicle or a part only (see
88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Airbags and
pretensioners: Recycling - Destruction, page
88C-7) . |
