When replacing a brake pad, it is essential to
replace the brake pad on the opposite side as well. |
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
- Unlock the steering column.
- Remove the front wheel (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1)
(35A, Wheels and tyres).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove the lower guide pin bolt (1) while holding
the nut (2) .
- Unclip:
- the clip (3) ,
- the brake hose (4) from the shock absorber.
- Rotate the calliper upwards.
- Remove the brake pad.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Always replace the guide pin bolt.
- Check the brake pad thickness (see 30A, General
information, Brake: Specifications, page 30A-7)
(30A, General information).
- Replace any faulty parts.
- Clean:
- the calliper,
- the calliper mounting,
- the calliper mounting bolts.
- Push the piston fully into its housing using tool (Fre. 1190-01) part
no. 77 11 223 715.
WARNING
In order not to damage the brake hose:
- do not tension the hose,
- do not twist the hose,
- check that there is no contact with the surrounding
components.

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Refit the brake pad, starting from the inside.
- Rotate the calliper downwards to return it to its original
position.
- Refit the new guide pin bolt.
- Torque tighten the guide pin bolt (29 N.m).
- Clip:
- the brake hose to the shock absorber,
- the clip.
III - FINAL OPERATION.
- Refit the front wheel (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) (35A,
Wheels and tyres).
IMPORTANT
To avoid any accident, bring the pistons, brake
pads and brake discs into contact by depressing
the brake pad several times. |
