Engine and cylinder block assembly

IMPORTANT

Wear goggles with side protectors for this operation.

 

IMPORTANT

Wear protective gloves during the operation.

 

WARNING

Always check the oil level using the dipstick.

Do not exceed the maximum level on the dipstick (could destroy the engine).

Correct the engine oil level if necessary before delivering the vehicle to the customer.

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

  • Position the vehicle on a two-post lift
  • Remove:
    • the oil filler cap equipped with the dipstick,
    • the engine undertray.
  • Drain the engine oil

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

  • Remove the sump bolts.
  • Detach the sump using the (Mot. 1716).
  • Remove the sump.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

WARNING

Do not scrape the joint faces of the aluminium, any damage caused to the joint face will result in a risk of leaks.

  • Clean the sump.
  • Check that the sump is not:
    • scratched,
    • deformed.
Note: Always replace the sump if it is scratched or deformed.
  • Check that the base plate is not scratched.

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

WARNING

The joint faces must be clean, dry and free from grease (avoid finger marks).

 

WARNING

Applying excess sealant could cause it to be squeezed out when parts are tightened. A mixture of sealant and fluid could damage certain components (engine, radiator, etc.).

  • Apply a bead of SILICONE ADHESIVE SEAL with a diameter of 5 mm +- 2 mm to the sump in order to ensure a good seal.
  • Fit the lower cover.
  • Refit the sump bolts.

  • Pretighten to torque in order the sump bolts (5 N.m).
  • Torque tighten in order the sump bolts (16 N.m).

III - FINAL OPERATION.

  • Fill up with engine oil
  • Refit:
    • the engine undertray,
    • the oil filler cap equipped with the dipstick.
  • Start the engine and wait until the engine oil warning light goes out.

IMPORTANT

Wear protective gloves during the operation.

 

Note: Take care not to burn yourself; engine oil can be very hot.

Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer.

Avoid all direct skin contact with used engine oil. In the event of contact with the skin, carefully wash the affected area with soap or hand cleaner.

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

IMPORTANT

To prevent the vehicle from falling, lash it to the vehicle lift using a strap.

  • Position the vehicle on a two-post lift .
  • Remove the engine undertray.
  • Drain the engine oil .

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

  • Remove the sump bolts in order.

  • Remove the sump using tool (Mot. 1716) (1) and a hammer.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

IMPORTANT

Wear goggles with side protectors for this operation.

 

WARNING

Do not scrape the joint faces of the aluminium, any damage caused to the joint face will result in a risk of leaks.

 

WARNING

The joint faces must be clean, dry and free from grease (avoid finger marks).

  • Clean the sealing surface using the product SUPER CLEANING AGENT FOR JOINT FACES .
  • Check that the sump is not:
    • scratched,
    • deformed.

If this is the case, replace the sump.

  • Check that the base plate is not scratched.
WARNING

Applying excess sealant could cause it to be squeezed out when parts are tightened. A mixture of sealant and fluid could damage certain components (engine, radiator, etc.).

  • Apply a bead of SILICONE ADHESIVE SEALANT with a diameter of approximately 5 mm, approximately 8 mm away from the inner edge of the sump to ensure a good seal.
Note: The fitting operation must be performed within 5 minutes following the application of the seal.

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

  • Refit the sump.
  • Finger tighten in order the sump bolts until contact is made.
  • Torque tighten in order the sump bolts (7 N.m).

III - FINAL OPERATION

Note: Top up the engine oil at least 30 minutes after the sump has been refitted.
  • Refit the engine undertray.
  • Fill up the engine oil.
