REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
- Unlock the steering column.
- Remove the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) .
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove the clip (1) from the brake hose.
- Unclip the brake hose.
- Disconnect the connector (2) from the front wheel
speed sensor.
- Unclip the wiring from the front wheel speed sensor
at (3) .
- Remove the upper nut (4) from the anti-roll bar tie
rod.
- Separate the anti-roll bar tie rod (5) from the shock
absorber.
- Remove the lower bolts and nuts (6) from the shock
absorber.
- Suspend the hub carrier.
M9R
- Unclip the clips (7) .
- Move aside the manual priming pump (8) in order to
access the upper shock absorber bolts (see Manual
priming pump: Removal - Refitting) (13A, Fuel
supply).
- Remove:
- the upper shock absorber bolts (10) ,
- the spring-shock absorber assembly.
- Position the spring on the spring compressor (11) .
- Compress the spring (12) until it is released.
- Remove the shock absorber rod nut using the spanner
for shock absorber rod nut (13) .
- Separate the components which make up the
"spring-shock absorber" unit.
- Decompress the spring.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
WARNING
To prevent any suspension asymmetry, replace
both of the shock absorbers on the same axle. |
- Always replace:
- the shock absorber rod nut,
- the anti-roll bar tie-rod nut.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Insert the spring in the neck of the cup.
- Align the lower end (14) of the spring on the cup of
the tool (15) .
- Compress the spring.
- Respect the order and direction of fitting for the constituent
parts.
- Refit the shock absorber rod nut using the spanner
for shock absorber rod nut.
- Torque tighten the shock absorber rod nut (79
N.m).
- Decompress the spring.
- Remove the spring compressor.
- Refit:
- the "spring - shock absorber" assembly,
- the upper shock absorber bolts,
- the cap.
- Torque tighten the upper shock absorber bolts (19
N.m).
M9R
- Position the manual priming pump.
- Attach the clips.
- Refit:
- the lower shock absorber bolts and nuts,
- the new nut on the anti-roll bar tie rod.
- Torque tighten:
- the shock absorber lower nuts (142 N.m),
- the new nut on the anti-roll bar tie rod (84 N.m).
- Connect the front wheel speed sensor connector.
- Refit:
- the wiring of the front wheel speed sensor,
- the brake hose,
- the clip.
III - FINAL OPERATION.
- Refit the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) .
- Adjust the axle assemblies (see 30A, General information,
Front axle system: Adjustment, page
30A-11) .
