Renault Koleos Service Repair Manual: Front driveshaft gaiter, wheel side: Removal - Refitting

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

• Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle: Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).

• Remove:
  • the engine undertray bolts,
  • the engine undertray.

6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX

• Drain the manual gearbox (see 21A, Manual gearbox, Manual gearbox oils: Draining - Filling, page 21A-5) .

FK0 or FK8, and 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

• Drain the automatic gearbox oil (see 23A, Automatic gearbox, Automatic gearbox oil: Draining - Filling, page 23A-11) .

• Remove:
  • the front wheel on the side concerned (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
  • the front right-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-4) or the front left-hand driveshaft (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front left-hand driveshaft: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-1) .
  • the front right-hand driveshaft gaiter on the gearbox side (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front right-hand driveshaft gaiter, gearbox side: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-27) or the front left-hand driveshaft driveshaft gaiter on the gearbox side (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front left-hand driveshaft gaiter, gearbox side: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-31)

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

1 - Front left-hand driveshaft

• Cut the clips (1) .
• Remove the driveshaft shock absorber (2) .
• Cut the clips (3) .
• Remove the front left-hand driveshaft gaiter (4) on the wheel side.
• Remove as much grease as possible.

2 - Front right-hand driveshaft

• Cut the clips (5) .
• Remove the front left-hand driveshaft gaiter (6) on the wheel side.
• Remove as much grease as possible.

6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX

• Remove the differential output seal on the side concerned (see Differential output seal: Removal - Refitting) .

FK0 or FK8, and 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

• Remove the differential output seal on the side concerned (see 23A, Automatic gearbox, Differential output seal: Removal - Refitting, page 23A-17) .

REFITTING

I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

• Always replace:
  • the differential output seal,
  • the clips.

FK0 or FK8, and 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

• Refit the differential output seal on the side concerned (see 23A, Automatic gearbox, Differential output seal: Removal - Refitting, page 23A-17) .

6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX

• Refit the differential output seal on the side concerned (see Differential output seal: Removal - Refitting) .

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

1 - Front left-hand driveshaft

• Refit the front driveshaft gaiter on the wheel side.
• Spread the quantity of grease around the gaiter and the stub axle bowl.
• Insert the lips of the gaiter into the grooves of the stub axle bowl and driveshaft.
• Refit new clips (7) to the front driveshaft gaiter on the wheel side.
• Tighten the clips (7) using the tool (Tav. 1168) (8) .
• Refit:
  • the shock absorber (2) ,
  • new clips (1) on the shock absorber.

M9R

• Tighten the clips (1) using the tool (Tav. 1168).

2TR

• Tighten the clips (1) using a screwdriver.

2 - Front right-hand driveshaft

• Refit the front driveshaft gaiter on the wheel side.
• Spread the quantity of grease around the gaiter and the stub axle bowl.
• Insert the lip of the gaiter into the grooves of the stub axle bowl and driveshaft.
• Refit the clips on the gaiter of the stub axle bowl and on the driveshaft.
• Refit new clips (7) to the front driveshaft gaiter on the wheel side.
• Tighten the clips (7) using the tool (Tav. 1168) (8) .

III - FINAL OPERATION.

• Refit:
  • the front right-hand driveshaft gaiter on the gearbox side (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front right-hand driveshaft gaiter, gearbox side: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-27) or the front left-hand driveshaft gaiter on the gearbox side (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front left-hand driveshaft gaiter, gearbox side: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-31)
  • the front driveshaft on the side concerned (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front right-hand driveshaft: Removal - Refitting, page 29A-4) or the front lefthand driveshaft (see 29A, Driveshafts, Front lefthand driveshaft: Removal - Refitting, page 29A- 1) .

M9R

• Fill the manual gearbox with oil (see 21A, Manual gearbox, Manual gearbox oils: Draining - Filling, page 21A-5) .

FK0 or FK8, and 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

• Fill the automatic gearbox with oil (see 23A, Automatic gearbox, Automatic gearbox oil: Draining - Filling, page 23A-11) .

• Refit:
  • the front wheel on the side concerned (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
  • the engine undertray,
  • the engine undertray bolts.
