REMOVAL - REFITTING
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Drain the gearbox (see Manual gearbox oils:
Draining - Filling) (21A, Manual gearbox).
- Remove:
- the front wheel (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) ,
- the front brake pads (see 31A, Front axle components,
Front brake pads: Removal - Refitting,
page 31A-1) .
- Remove the guide pin bolt (1) while holding the nut
(2) .
- Suspend the brake calliper from the suspension
spring.
- Remove:
- the front brake calliper mounting (see 31A, Front
axle components, Front brake calliper mounting:
Removal - Refitting, page 31A-9) ,
- the brake disc (see 31A, Front axle components,
Front brake disc: Removal - Refitting, page 31A-
13) .
- Repeat the operation on the opposite side.
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
1 - Left-hand side of the vehicle
- Remove:
- the wheel speed sensor bolt (3) ,
- the wheel speed sensor,
- the track rod ball joint nut (4) ,
- the lower arm ball joint nut (5) ,
- the shock absorber lower nuts (6) .
- Extract the track rod end using the (Tav. 476).
- Remove:
- the lower arm ball joint,
- the hub carrier with its driveshaft.
2 - Right-hand side of the vehicle
- Remove:
- the wheel speed sensor bolt (7) ,
- the wheel speed sensor,
- the track rod ball joint nut (8) ,
- the lower arm ball joint nut (9) ,
- the shock absorber lower nuts (10) .
- Extract the track rod end using the (Tav. 476).
- Remove the lower arm ball joint.
2TR
- Remove:
- the driveshaft bearing bracket bolts (11) ,
- the driveshaft bearing bracket.
M9R
- Remove the driveshaft bearing bracket bolts (12) .
- Remove the hub carrier with its driveshaft.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Clean and lubricate the driveshaft bearing bore into
which the bearing is inserted.
- Replace the O-ring at the bottom of the driveshaft
bearing if it is worn.
- Always replace:
- the differential output lip seals,
- the driveshaft bearing ring on the left-hand side if
fitted to the vehicle,
- the guide pin bolts.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
1 - Right-hand side of the vehicle
- Refit the hub carrier with its driveshaft.
2TR
- Refit the driveshaft bearing bracket.
- Refit:
- the driveshaft bearing bracket bolts,
- the shock absorber lower nuts,
- the lower arm ball joint nut,
- the track rod ball joint nut,
- the wheel speed sensor,
- the wheel speed sensor bolt.
Note:
Check that the ring is correctly positioned on the
lower arm ball joint. |
2 - Left-hand side of the vehicle
- Refit:
- the hub carrier with its driveshaft,
- the shock absorber lower nuts,
- the lower arm ball joint nut,
- the track rod ball joint nut,
- the wheel speed sensor,
- the wheel speed sensor bolt.
Note:
Check that the ring is correctly positioned on the
lower arm ball joint. |
2TR
- Torque tighten the driveshaft bearing bracket
bolts [2TR] (30 N.m).
M9R
- Torque tighten the driveshaft bearing bracket
bolts [M9R] (25 N.m).
- Torque tighten:
- the shock absorber lower nuts (142 N.m),
- the lower arm ball joint nut (63 N.m),
- the track rod ball joint nut (34 N.m),
- the wheel speed sensor bolt (10 N.m).
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit:
- the callipers to their supports,
- the guide pin bolts.
- Torque tighten the guide pin bolts (29 N.m).
- Refit:
- the brake disc (see 31A, Front axle components,
Front brake disc: Removal - Refitting, page 31A-
13) ,
- the front brake calliper mounting (see 31A, Front
axle components, Front brake calliper mounting:
Removal - Refitting, page 31A-9) ,
- the front brake pads (see 31A, Front axle components,
Front brake pads: Removal - Refitting,
page 31A-1) ,
- the front wheel (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, page 35A-1) .
- Fill up the gearbox oil and check the level (see Manual
gearbox oils: Draining - Filling) (21A, Manual
gearbox).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Check the front axle geometry (see 30A, General
information, Front axle system: Adjustment,
page 30A-11) .
